Organizations Goals for the Community
Organizations Goals for Government
By partnering with other public agencies, we will reach out to a broader segment of the population. By developing growing grounds at the Federal Prison, we can assure a resource of quality trees specifically selected and appropriate for our area. We have currently completed the engineering and ordered 3,475 trees from the Sonoma County Detention. Facility as a start for our growing facility. By maintaining a greenhouse with the City of Atwater, we hope to have a facility to conduct research and have a facility to give students and the public hands-on experience.
Professional Goals
The Professional Goal of the Tree Partners Foundation is to use existing professionals in the community and develop new human resources to enhance the urban forest. These professionals will search for and use the most current research as an aid for the tree selection, maintenance, growing, planting, and pruning.
The expected outcome is that the Tree Partners Foundation will become a trusted community resource for the most up to date information on tree selection, planting, pruning, and care.
Educational Goals
The goal of the Tree Partners Foundation will be provide continuing and selective educational activities that will be of interest and benefit to the Partners and the Public. The Foundation would also like to sponsor a student intern to work for the foundation.
The expected outcomes from the education goal are many and widespread. The Foundation has already sponsored a poster contest for students to develop a Logo. Atwater also had its first Arbor Day celebration in many years. By sponsoring tree plantings with the help of community organizations students have the opportunity to work with professionals in the tree planting. They also learn some of the benefits of the Urban Forest. It is the hope of the Foundation that this will inspire students to take an interest in trees and their importance to our community. The Foundation would like to reach out to the public in a variety of ways to engage and educate. This will be done through seminars, workshops, and educational materials such as fliers, pamphlets, and links to internet sites. We would also like to develop some of our own human resources by sending them to seminars and workshops in the state and nationally. We also hope to have some qualified to become licensed arborists.
Laws and Regulations Goals
As stated earlier, the Foundation would like to help develop and revise the cities tree ordinance. The Foundation would also like to be involved with regional and state Laws and Regulations.
Expected Outcomes were stated earlier for updating the city tree ordinance. The Foundation will also be involved with planting trees in new housing developments in the cities boundaries. This will assure compliance with the cities tree ordinance and assure the proper tree species is planted at the appropriate time and maintained and pruned to develop a strong and healthy scaffold. This will also assure a revenue stream to the Foundation. By being involved with regional and state laws and regulations, the Foundation will add its voice to others to pass and lobby for laws and regulations that benefit the urban forest.
Research Goals
The research goal of the Foundation will involve collecting data, doing research, and analyzing findings on new plantings as well as existing trees.
The expected outcomes from this research will help to find new solutions to problems of trees in urban areas. The Foundation would like to find out which species of trees provide beauty, shade, shelter and food for wildlife. We would like to know which trees do best in certain situations and which native species do well in an urban environment. When it is best to plant, prune, and water each desire species? Which plants are tolerant of drought and which help with water runoff? We would like to know when to begin replacing trees to make a healthy mix of ages and species of trees. We would like to find solutions to mistletoe, root problems, vandalism, poor growth, and diseases that affect trees in an urban environment. One benefit of research is that it raises other questions that need to be answered. By beginning with planting and monitoring the trees in our urban forest and with the help of volunteers and hopefully an intern, the Foundation can begin to answer some of the questions specific to our local environment.
